ImmunocytochemicallocalizationsinratspinalcordhavedemonstratedOFQabundanceinsuperficialdorsalhorn,lateralspinalnucleusandtheregiondorsaltothecentralcanal.OFQimmunoreactivitywasnotaffectedbydorsalrhizotomy,indicatingthatinspinalcordthepeptideisproducedbycentralratherthanprimaryafferentneurons.Thelocalizationissupportedbyitsfunctioninprocessingofnociceptivesignals.
